THE BOXER NICK Blackwell has woken from his induced coma.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital after his loss to Chris Eubank Jr on 26 March.

Blackwell suffered a bleed on the skull — not the brain as was initially reported — and woke from the induced coma on Saturday.

His promoters say that, by Sunday, he was talking to friends and family at his bedside.

The fight with Eubank Jr was stopped on medical advice in the 10th round after Blackwell had taken a significant number of shots to the head which had closed and badly swollen the area around his left eye.

Blackwell was stretchered out of the ring while receiving oxygen after the result was announced.

While many criticised the referee on the night, the British Boxing Board of Control defended Victor Loughlan’s performance in the aftermath of the contest.

For his part, Eubank Jr. tweeted his relief at the news.
